Well...I kinda feel shy about this. My attempt to colour this character. Since SilentChloey, ClaFanN1, VitorViana, Lathrin and others colour Natalie, I tried to color it myself as well. I started the colours October 2012, but I set it aside the same month because I get tired with the detailed colouring. Only this January that I decided to continue this artwork. And here she is!!! I hope I made her look beautiful.
This coloured artwork is for the benefit for the fan fiction in progress, called "A Phantom's Trilogy".
The outline version of this I dedicated to Revan5's fiction, called "Phantom Miria Trilogy". Here's the outlined version:
Btw, "A Phantom's Trilogy (abbreviated as APT)", and "Phantom Miria Trilogy (abbreviated as PMT)" are different but sort of "related" fan fiction stories. I might say that APT is kind of a side fiction to PMT, but as I have seen for now, APT is taking a story course not connected to PMT. One of the many, and huge differences is that of the main characters. PMT's phantom is no other than Miria, APT's character is another phantom...Miria's adopted daughter who inherited a phantom skill, Natalie.
I lend ClaFanN1 colours in the necklace because I'm running out of time I need to post her today (but I actually failed to request him for it's use. I apologize for using it right away without asking). I also referenced the colours in the jewel accessories, esp. the gold color for this artwork from ClafanN1's coloured version of Natalie.
I want also to acknowledge Zofia-Klukowski for the flower background of this artwork. Actually, I found this just now, that is why you might see the light's direction not match to Natalie's shadow. Still, I feel that the background matches Natalie and her dress.
Also, I'm just thinking if having this hair colour (of Natalie) is common for claymore hybrids. We got blond to white or yellow, but I don't think about this colour. Maybe there is, afterall, I think Miria got a hair colour as close to Natalie's.
I thank everybody for colouring Natalie. You're colouring helps me how to colour her in my own. A special thanks to for his coloured work as reference for the dress, for the references in the colours of necklace. I also thank for colour reference as well, and for giving me many coloured versions of Natalie, which inspired me to colour Natalie in my own style.
Despite you tried to make the background lighter to make the character stand you can tell the background and the character are into 2 different planes and are not related, the character must stand but at the same time be integrated in the environment the background is suggesting. Real Life backgrounds usually don't work well with 2 art so you might have some hard time make them work well for your characters. The corset texture is too strong, it completely hides the glows and shadows. Vision: It's not like you reinvented the wheel here, so, a low rating. Originality: Original character and colors, a custom made background would have been a plus. Technique: Overall, it's a well done composition, good use of textures, you showed some skill in both hair and dress. Impact: A higher quality background would have been caused a greater impact, still it doesn't disappoint.
Honestly, I haven't explored much on the functions of Photoshop. So I don't know if there are some functions that will be also useful. I hope I will discover them someday.
Thanks a lot about the "Adjustments" function. It helps me a lot in changing the tone of the colours.
What you mean shameful colouring? There ain't no shameful in your colouring....both our colourings. I honestly tell you, this ain't painting. I'm just making it look like an anime version. And the background is a real picture I found in DA, I just make it appear to be blur. But you use colours through blending it in a sense of painting, which I can't go to that far now. I admire your kind art style.
